The media server, rebuilt

Your media server, up to 1,400× faster.

Lattice rebuilt the data layer behind the Jellyfin® API from the ground up for speed, concurrency, reliability and — did we mention speed? Searches in under 7 ms. A full library sync in seconds, not minutes. Parallelized and optimized so time-starved admins work less and enjoy their media more. Engineered by a home-media pioneer and 21-year veteran.

“Up to 1,400×” is search as you type: each keystroke took Jellyfin 10.11 3,000–10,000 ms and Lattice under 7 ms (~500–1,500×), measured on one household library of about 40,000 items. How we measured.

The Lattice mark: a titanium X-braced frame with a purple jelly cap.

What changes for you

Everything opens instantly.

Search, browse and sync answer before you’ve finished tapping, however big the library gets.

Under 7 ms per search keystroke; a full 40,000-item library sync in about 5 seconds.

Spend your evenings watching, not fixing.

Parallelized and optimized so time-starved admins work less, and the people you share with get help without calling you.

Ask Lattice walks them through setup and flags problems to you (beta).

Keep the apps your family already loves.

Infuse connects exactly as it does today. Swiftfin, Streamyfin and other Jellyfin-compatible players speak the same API. Old TV or a slow connection? Pick a port to cap the quality.

Same login, same libraries, same direct play; watch history and resume points come with you.

Room for more on the same disks.

Distiller re-encodes to save space, and proves the quality instead of promising it.

~64% saved on re-encoded shows on one household library, every file checked with VMAF.

Share safely, no VPN.

No open admin ports, and every new device is approved by the owner, which works like a second factor.

The people you share with install nothing but their player: no VPN, no relay.

Your viewing stays yours.

No tracking, no telemetry, no ads.

Your library and viewing data stay on your server; anything that would ever leave it is opt-in.

The smart stuff.

Lattice is an extensible platform with tons of smart features. Here are a few.

Ask Lattice

Ask in plain words. It does the legwork.

An agent for your library, in the iPhone app, built on Claude Haiku from Anthropic.

  • Find it, or ask for it. “Do we have Eden Lake?” Ask finds titles with words in any order, a typo or a half-remembered name. If it isn’t in the library, one tap sends a request to the owner.
  • Get set up (beta). New to the server? Ask walks you through joining, installing a player and connecting it, step by step, at your pace.
  • Fix what’s wrong (beta). Playback stuttering, an episode missing, a file that looks bad: tell Ask. It checks the server, explains what it found and flags quality problems to the owner.
  • Less than a penny a question. A typical search or request costs about a quarter of a cent. Ask needs an Anthropic API key; without one, everything else in Lattice works as usual.

Distiller

Save space. Prove the quality.

Optional re-encoding that saves space with verified quality. Every result is measured with VMAF, and Distiller never keeps a file that’s worse than your target or bigger than the original.

  • ~64% saved on re-encoded shows on one household library.
  • Measured, not guessed: each encode is scored with VMAF against its source.
  • Bring your own GPU (Intel Arc tested; NVIDIA RTX 4090 testing now). Distiller is optional; everything else works without it.

Lattice for iPhone

Your library, in your pocket.

A companion app for everyone you share with, and a control room for owners.

  • Browse the library.
  • Ask about it in plain words.
  • Spill into channels and threads with the people you share with.
  • Settings to tune it. Owners also get the Console, where new devices are approved.

Lattice Monitor for Apple TV

The whole server, at a glance. Free.

A free, read-only dashboard for the big screen: what’s playing, server load and library health.

  • Now playing: what’s on, where, and how it’s being played.
  • Server load and library health without opening a laptop.
  • Read-only. It shows; it never changes anything.

Modern security

No open admin ports.

Your players reach Lattice over the internet; your admin controls never do. Administration happens only in the iPhone app, over its own signed channel, and admin routes answer only on your home network.

  • A password alone isn’t enough. A sign-in from a new device gets no access token until the owner approves that device in the iPhone app with Face ID, so approval works like a second factor.
  • A token per device, revocable any time from the app, and kept out of logs.
  • Signed requests: the app signs with a per-device key held in the iPhone’s Secure Enclave.
  • Hard to guess at: no public user list, uniform sign-in errors, per-IP and per-account back-off, and TLS with a real certificate.
  • Players only on the player port: browsers and scanners are refused.
  • No VPN or third-party relay for the people you share with.

Requires the Lattice iPhone app and a paid admin add-on.

Quality lanes

Pick a port, pick the quality.

Old hardware, bad connection? Jellyfin and some players fumble the bag on this. Just pick 8090 to limit a device to 720p, 8091 for 1080p, or 8094 for full quality, up to 4K.

  • Each port is a ceiling. Lattice serves the best version up to that resolution, and never upscales.
  • Converted while you watch: 8090 and 8091 transcode on the fly, so no extra copies are stored. They need a GPU.
  • Owners switch each lane on or off.

Measured speed

Measured, not promised.

Every list, search and “what changed?” is worked out when the library changes, not each time you ask. A page of a 40,000-item library costs the same as a page of a 100-item one.

  • 6.8 ms p99 per search keystroke over HTTP; 14 keystrokes in flight finish in 25 ms.
  • Native InfuseSync: a sync with nothing changed takes milliseconds, and every change arrives at least once.
  • ~74% smaller artwork for phones, built per device class.

Bring your history

Switch without starting over.

Users, passwords, watch history and resume points come across from Jellyfin, and we’re bridging every Jellyfin admin feature you rely on (in beta). People you share with sign in as they always have.

  • Passwords unchanged: Lattice verifies Jellyfin’s own password format.
